In addition to the leaders communicating goals and avoiding team members from being isolated, virtual teams need to be supported by the right technology and the training to use the technology.

But perhaps most important is culture. What does the enterprise expect (and reward) by way of responsible, timely work from its various locations? What are the consequences for later or incomplete work product from a remote office or someone working from home? The potential negative impacts to a project are real and immediate. And this is only magnified if your virtual team is a global, cross cultural endeavor.
